The sticky icky, the green monster, Thelonious Skunk, whatever you call it, today is the unofficial day that potheads and high schoolers the world around celebrate its existence. It should come as no surprise that the Doggfather of Ganj would release another record and video about smoking bud, but this time he is joined by bubblegum-rap newcomer Kid Cudi (of Day ‘n Night popularity).   Hopefully this wont hurt Cudi’s chance at finally snagging that coveted Teen Choice Award.  While anyone over the age of 25 or so should immediately get the reference, Snoop and Cudi are dressed as stoner-sensations Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong from their film Up in Smoke.  And now, That Tree:

Since I’d hate to leave you without learning anything (and I’ll assume most of you readers noticed/would have noticed the Cheech and Chong reference without my help) I’ll drop some 420 knowledge on all of you.  The term 420 originated from a group of teens who attended San Rafael High School in San Rafael, CA back in 1971.  After class and sports practice they’d meet at 4:20 to toke up by the Louis Pasture statue (this being the man known for among other things the pasteurization process and the first rabies vaccine; obvious he could be prouder) and search for a secret garden of green.  Later these rambunctious rapscallions, as if straight from a movie,  became buddy-buddy with the Greatful Dead and what started out as a lame codeword between a small group of friends entered into the world vernacular.  If you’re interested in reading more about it, check out the Huffington Post story.
